Created and hosted by Kelso Yacht Club in 1987, the series was sailed off Kelso till 1993, when with the gradual decline of KYC, it was relocated to Port Dalrymple.

The series was sponsored in its initial year by Kartas, then for many following years by Millner Yacht Construction (with many of Ian's creations contesting the series) the series has now, had long ongoing support from Tamar Marine and is one of the many events Tim and the crew at Tamar Marine support on the Tamar to the benefit of all the rivers clubs.
